Violet

Violet

Smells like: Orange groves in full bloom as the sun heats the Arizona morning. Rich and heady, this scent is also called Neroli. Incredibly fragrant, musky, sweet and comforting.

Made with:  Delicate bachelor button petals, skin loving avocado oil and light sunflower oil. Silky smooth on the skin.

This is an In Memory Of batch for a dear friend of mine, a woman who means more to me than she'll ever know. In her words, a fondest memory of Violet Wylie, Lizard Hunter.

"When I would think of moments with Violet... the lizard hunting kept coming to mind. The walks I had with her and her looking for lizards are some of my favorite memories so this is what I wrote. My friend who would come on the walks sometimes literally referred to Violet as "Violet Wylie Lizard Hunter".

Violet packed more personality into her tiny body than seemed possible. She raced people down hallways, rode elevators like a professional, loved head rubs while being serenaded, and always licked my tears when I was sad.

One of the most unforgettable things about Violet happened on our walks. The moment she spotted a lizard, everything changed. One second she was peacefully trotting beside me, and the next she became “Violet Wylie Lizard Hunter” — a tiny terrier operating with the intensity of a full wildlife documentary narrator whispering, the hunter has locked onto her prey.

Her entire body would freeze for half a second before she launched into action with complete determination. Ears up. Eyes locked. Tiny paws moving at maximum speed. She was absolutely convinced that this was finally going to be the day she caught one.

Most of the time, the lizards escaped at the very last second while Violet stood there stunned, trying to process what went wrong. But one day, against all odds, she actually cornered one. In the chaos of her tiny but deeply committed attack strategy, Violet somehow managed to flip the lizard onto its back. The excitement that came over her was so dramatic she practically levitated off the ground. You would have thought she had just conquered an actual dinosaur.

Thankfully, I intervened before the situation turned into Violet’s greatest career achievement. Then, just as quickly as it started, the hunt was over. She would calmly continue the walk as if nothing dramatic had happened at all.

Whenever I think about those moments now, I can still hear the soundtrack that would have played if it were a movie — tiny, intense adventure music for the world’s smallest and most dedicated lizard hunter."
